3rd Networking Meeting for Doctoral Supervisors

On Wednesday, 04.12.2019, doctoral supervisors of TH Köln were invited to the 3rd networking meeting.

17 professors attended this year‘s networking event for doctoral supervisors. Aim of this event was getting to know each other and engaging in mutual exchange.

After a short opening address, Prof. Dr. Klaus Becker, Vice President for Research and Knowledge Transfer, presented the current developments regarding the “Graduierteninstitut NRW (GI NRW)”. Furthermore, he presented newly established structures regarding doctoral research at TH Köln, as well as an update of the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) and the corresponding actions for doctoral researchers and supervisors. Finally, Mirjam Heetkamp presented current developments and the program of Graduate Center of TH Köln.

After the information session, Dr. Nadine Chmura of “Qualitätszirkel Promotion” gave an introduction to the topic „My role as a supervisor in the individual phases of doctoral research“. The attending supervisors had the opportunity to split up in groups for supervisors with little experience and intermediate experience in doctoral supervision and engage in exchange about this topic. Finally, the two groups presented their results and the needs of doctoral candidates and researchers were discussed.

Currently, 174 doctoral researchers are registered at TH Köln, supervised by 80 professors in total. Graduate Center supports those who are interested in a doctorate and current doctoral researchers and offers, a program for continuing education, coaching regarding the doctorate in German as well as in English, networking and funding opportunities for doctoral researchers.
