15th Afternoon for Doctorates

On November 14, 2022, all doctoral researchers at TH Köln were invited to the 15th afternoon for doctorates at the Bildungswerkstatt. The agenda included a discussion with TH Köln alumni on the topic of "Outlook - After the doctorate: (New) working environments for doctoral graduates" and the election of the doctoral spokespersons.

Vice President for Research and Knowledge Transfer Prof. Dr.-Ing. Klaus Becker welcomed the participants to the Bildungswerkstatt at the Südstadt Campus and gave in his introduction also information about the Doctoral College NRW, which will be granted the independent right to award doctorates on 18.11.2022. Mirjam Heetkamp from the Servicetelle Graduiertenzentrum then highlighted the current offers for doctoral researchers.

The main part of the event consisted of a panel discussion with six TH Köln doctoral alumni who are now working for various employers in different sectors. They shared with the participants their current jobs as data analysts, professors, speakers, postdocs, engineers, and managers, as well as their experiences on their career paths so far. The intense discussion concluded with hints and tips from alumni for current doctoral researchers.

During the break, there was then plenty of time for further networking and sharing. Afterwards, the election of the doctoral spokespersons was on the agenda. Juliane Ressel from the Faculty of Economics and Law was re-elected as spokesperson. Louisa Rinsdorf from the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering was newly elected as deputy speaker. The team of spokeswomen is supported by Eva-Maria Grommes from the Faculty of Process Engineering, Energy and Mechanical Systems. Vice President Prof. Dr.-Ing. Klaus Becker thanked the previous team of speakers for their commitment and good cooperation.

The Doctoral Afternoon is organized once or twice a year by the Graduate Center of TH Köln in cooperation with the doctoral spokespersons of TH Köln. It has been taking place since 2012.

The 16th Afternoon of Doctoral Studies will take place on May 23, 2023 combined with the Research Day at the Fritz Thyssen Foundation - all doctoral researchers at TH Köln are again warmly invited.
