Exchange Students

Are you looking forward to your time abroad at TH Köln? Are you excited to meet new people and discover the city of Cologne but still have plenty of unanswered questions? The International Office is happy to assist and accompany you during your first days and weeks at a new university in a new city.

Admission and enrollment

Your first steps at TH Köln - University of Applied Sciences are easier than you might think – despite the numerous questions you might have prior to your arrival. That is why we have compiled all essential information for you online. Should any questions remain unanswered, we are happy to answer them in person during your enrollment at the International Office.

I have been nominated - what's next?

After your home university has selected and nominated you for an academic exchange abroad, you will be asked to file an online registration on our Mobility Online platform. Upon successful completion and review of your registration, your letter of admission will be available for download on Mobility Online. Letters of admission for winter semesters will be available by mid-June while those for summer semesters will be available by mid-December.

Should you have any questions on your program, please get in touch with your faculty's contact person listed in the letter of admission.

Enrolling at TH Köln

For the upcoming winter semester, we suggest to arrive beginning of September, if you still need to find accommoation. Please note, that enrollment at TH Köln will start on September 18th, 2017. Please note that there is an International Office on each of our three campuses: Südstadt, Deutz and Gummersbach. Make sure to refer to your letter of admission to find out which campus to go to. Please bring the following documents when you enroll:

* All students enrolled at TH Köln are required to have health insurance. Please make sure that your insurance coverage from your home country meets all health-insurance requirements in Germany. Students from a member country of the European Union or from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland who are in possession of a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) are sufficiently insured. If this applies to you, you are required to request an exemption from statutory German health insurance immediately after your arrival. We ask you to submit a confirmation of this exemption when you enroll at TH Köln.

All things practical

In addition to useful information on TH Köln and the city of Cologne, you will receive a certificate of enrollment to be presented to numerous authorities in Cologne. You will also be issued a preliminary travel ticket for all means of public transportation within the VRS zone (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg). This temporary ticket will be valid until you will have received your student ID – the MultiCa.
