Registration and admission
Online registration for examinations
Examinations – including exam registrations – are managed in PSSO or CaMS, depending on the program. For examinations from other programs, the system of the program the exam belongs to must be used.
All students at TH Köln are required to register prior to taking an examination. Each semester, there are specified registration periods during which students can register for the exams they want to take. Registrations are usually done through PSSO (Online Examination and Student Services) or in the campus management system (CaMS). In some cases, students have to register through the Office of Student and Examination Services responsible for the program the respective examination belongs to.
The examination board of each program determines and publishes the registration periods in PSSO or CaMS. In order to be admitted to an examination, students must also meet the admission requirements.
Cancelling an exam registration
Withdrawing from an examination
After the deadline for cancelling an exam registration (usually one week prior to the examination) has passed, students need to present a valid reason in order to withdraw from an examination.
Students can generally cancel their registration for an exam up until one week (sometimes two weeks) prior to the examination date. Students are not required to present a reason for cancelling their registration and they do not lose an attempt to take this particular examination.
Cancellations can be carried out in PSSO or CaMS. However, in some cases you need to register through the responsible Office of Student and Examination Services.
| Deadlines When cancelling your registration for an exam, please make sure you meet the respective deadline. If you are unsure of the deadline or encounter any difficulties with your cancellation, please contact the Office of Student and Examination Services. If you fail to cancel your registration in time and do not show up for the examination, it will be considered as a failed attempt and you will receive the grade "insufficient" (5.0). Registrations for Bachelor's and Master's theses can only be withdrawn in writing until the decision on the registration has been announced. |
Registering for examinations from other programs
To register for an examination from another program, you need to send an email to the Office of Student and Examination Services responsible for the respective program. They will process your registration in the system. If you wish to cancel your registration, please send another email.
Please keep the respective faculty's deadlines for registering and canceling registrations in mind, as they may vary.
If the program offering the examination is already using the examination management feature in CaMS, you will be able to see your registration and generate a transcript of records in CaMS.
If the examination is part of a program that is still managing examinations in PSSO, you will find your registration and transcript of records in PSSO.
Taking examinations early
It is gerenally possible and allowed to take examinations earlier than the scheduled in the examination regulations of the respective program (§ 94 (4) of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (HG)). This can only be done, however, if all prerequisites to take the examination (such as having passed certain examinations during earlier stages of the program) have been met.
