Abstract | Recently, the “museum community” (Neather 2012a/b) has become the object of translational research. However, there is a paucity of investigations into the translation-relevant features of exhibition catalogue texts, although this text genre is highly relevant from an applied point of view. This research project, therefore, will examine the text-internal and text-external translation-relevant features of this highly complex discourse genre and the various translation strategies and techniques to be employed. The research will also look into the various types of domain knowledge required to translate these texts by developing frame-semantic networks to visualize the knowledge presented in the text as well as the underlying contextual knowledge that has to be inferred by the translator to produce high-quality translations in this so far under-researched field. |
