Vehicle Development (Bachelor's program) – Program Content

Projektbasierte und anwendungsorientierte Lehre (Image: Heike Fischer / TH Köln)

From vehicle powertrains to autonomous driving, vehicle development is more diverse than ever.

The degree program consists of three phases, each of which is based on the other and the courses are organized in the form of modules.

Fundamentals of engineering 1st - 2nd semester:

Relevant engineering and scientific fundamentals are taught here, similar to those provided in any other engineering degree program. The vehicle-independent education is intended to be the foundation for the further specific specializations in the study of automotive engineering.

Specialization phase 3rd - 5th semester:

At the beginning of the specialization phase, students decide on a field of study in order to further develop the desired skills and competencies in a targeted manner. There is the possibility to choose "Automotive Engineering" with classical mechanical engineering contents, or the study field "Digital Vehicle", in order to focus on the necessary adaptations in the digital area.

Practical and final phase 6th - 7th semester:

In the third phase, students learn how to put their knowledge into practice in an entrepreneurial environment during an internship semester. In addition to the bachelor thesis, interdisciplinary qualifications are also increased in this phase.

Digitization competence

In both specializations, individual digitization skills are expanded from the first to the fifth semester. To this end, projects are worked on that deal with digitization topics and increase in complexity over the course of the study program.

Modern forms of learning/teaching throughout the course of study

Project-oriented learning, flipped classroom, classic lecture, internships, digitally supported: the range of learning forms is wide and thus offers optimal preparation for the modern work environment.  In addition to technical skills, important social skills are also acquired...

Vehicle development is much more

than cars and engines.
In addition to the specializations, a large number of elective modules also offer the possibility of specialization and diversification. The elective modules currently offered can be found in the module catalog.
