The most common tasks of vehicle engineers can be found in the following areas:

  • Research and development
  • Construction
  • Testing
  • Production
  • Expertise

Other possible fields of activity are occupational safety, quality management, environmental protection, traffic planning, logistics or teaching.
In addition to the familiar fields of work, engineers are also employed in many other areas of activity, such as consulting, marketing or human resources.

Automotive engineers may stand a good chance with the following employers:

  •     in the automotive industry (OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer)
  •     in the automotive supply industry (first tier supplier)
  •     in the rail vehicle industry
  •     in general mechanical engineering
  •     at technical inspection associations (e.g. TÜV, DEKRA, GTÜ, etc.)
  •     as a motor vehicle expert and assessor
  •     with transport companies
  •     in the technical service of the public sector
