Admission Requirements

University degree
A university degree (Diplom or Bachelor's degree) in a suitable field (automation, electrical engineering, mechatronics, closely related disciplines) with a final grade of 2.5/"good" or better (German grading system) or equivalent.

If you have not graduated yet, you may still apply for admission if you expect to have graduated by the time the Master's program starts. 
International applicants and applicants with degrees obtained outside of Germany please consider the information on admission requirements and German language skills.

1) Proof of English language proficiency

a) TOEFL with a minimum score of 550 points on the paper-based test or 213 points on the computer-based test or 80 points on the internet-based test.

b) IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0 or equivalent

2) Motivation to pursue the Master's program

Applicants are required to detail their motivation for enrolling in the Master's program in a 2-page motivation letter, written in English. The motivation letter is used to determine an applicant's aptitude for the program.

Applications without a motivation letter will not be considered.

Additional information
Aptitude for the Master's program is evaluated based on the final grade of the undergraduate degree, the suitability of the undergraduate degree and the motivation letter.

Additional enrollment requirements

Evidence of particular personal situation:

- care for own minor children
- care for close relatives (parents, grandparents, children or spouse)
- own severe illness or disability
- employment (at least 50% of a full-time employment)
- other social reasons

Applications are submitted through TH Köln's campus management system (CaMS).

- international applicants without a first-cycle degree from a German university but with a first-cycle degree in a field related to the Master’s program from a university outside of Germany
