Framing, Representation, Absence and Co-Occurrence of Women and Queer People in IPCC AR6 and Beyond (FRAC-WQ-AR6)Get-iT@TH Köln
FRAC-WQ-AR6 is a fellowship within the project ‘Gender Aspects in Research and Transfer at the TH Köln’ (Get-iT@TH Köln) funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). As scientific syntheses, bases for political decision-making and central references for science communication on the climate crisis, the Assessment Reports (AR) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have a distinctive discursive power. Therefore, it is particularly relevant to analyse who is being represented in these reports, how this representation is framed, who is mentioned alongside whom, and where potential gaps exist. The fellowship focuses on answering these questions for women and queer people and their intersections with other marginalised groups. This involves using quantitative methods of text analysis to record frequencies, contexts and intersections, followed by a qualitative examination of selected text passages on framing. In addition, a systematic literature review will be conducted to identify knowledge gaps. Duration 2026 to 2027. -
Co-Creation in the Region – Systemic and Innovative Development of Transfer (Co-Site)Co-Site
In Co-Site, TH Köln is developing and designing a methodological, structural, organisational and spatial framework in the form of a real-world laboratory together with partners from 2023 onwards. The aim is (a) to connect actors from science, society, economy and politics in open-ended regional transformation processes (networking objective), (b) to (further) develop transfer methods and formats in order to involve non-scientific partners in the entire process of knowledge generation (methodological objective), (c) to collect, generate, apply and communicate knowledge about (local) infrastructures and their interdependencies together with the partners (transformation objective), (d) to induce scientific and societal learning processes in the contexts of co-creation and climate change (learning objective), and (e) to build, test and evaluate personnel, physical and digital structures for co-creative transfer processes in order to consolidate them if successful and expand them thematically and regionally (sustainability objective). The overall goal is to adapt the region to climate change in the form of new and adapted infrastructures. The project is funded by the Federal-State Initiative ‘Innovative University’ of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). Duration 2023 to 2027. -
Open Educational Resources for Queerness in Library Science Teaching (OER4QueerBiL)
OER4QueerBiL is a project within the scope of a research leave of TH Köln. The aim is to develop Open Educational Resources (OER) that enable lecturers in library science to integrate queer topics, perspectives and individuals into their teaching in a subject-specific and demand-oriented approach. The development is taking place in a teaching transfer project and in collaboration with lecturers from various universities. At the same time, the OER are based on the results of the project ‘Queerness in Library Science Teaching (QueerBiL)’, which collected the needs and ideas of lecturers, students and practitioners. The long-term goal is to build demand-oriented skills among lecturers and students, which can be reflected in more queer-friendly libraries and queer topics in student theses. This generates impulses for research and practice. Duration 2026. -
Science Communication on TikTok: Research and PracticeCareer Cluster
The project is a career cluster within the framework of the project ‘Rethinking Professorial Careers at Universities of Applied Sciences: Collaboration and Networking’ (PLan_CV) at TH Köln, funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). TikTok has a certain potential for communicating scientific findings. However, there has been limited research into this area from the perspective of science communication. To this end, the Career Cluster aims to establish a research network to promote networking among researchers active on TikTok and to advance research on science communication on TikTok. In addition, the Career Cluster wants to enable interested researchers to engage in independent science communication on TikTok. To this end, best practices will be identified, guidelines and recommendations derived, a conference organised in autumn 2025, and conference proceedings published in 2026. Duration 2025 to 2026. -
Queerness in Library Science Teaching (QueerBiL)Get-iT@TH Köln
QueerBiL is a fellowship within the project ‘Gender Aspects in Research and Transfer at the TH Köln’ (Get-iT@TH Köln) funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). In the spirit of transformative research design, a mixed-method approach is being pursued to address two research questions: (a) Where and how do queer and queer-feminist topics, people and perspectives appear in library and information science education? (b) Where and how can they occur and interact in the future? So far, little is known about the previous representation and reception of these topics, people and perspectives in library and information science education in Germany. Duration 2024 to 2026. -
Hateful comments on Science Communication about the Energy Transition on TikTokWorking@TH Köln
A project within the sub-project ‘Woring@TH Köln – Experience Science’ in the project ‘Rethinking Professorial Careers at Universities of Applied Sciences: Collaboration and Networking’ (PLan_CV) at TH Köln, funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). Planning, implementation and publication of an analysis of polarising comments on TikToks on videos related to the energy transition. Duration 2022 to 2023. -

The Climate. Podcast on the Science behind the Crisis. The Climate
The climate crisis is comprehensive and global. It affects everyone and everything and will undoubtedly determine our actions and everyday lives in all areas over the coming decades. That is why it is necessary for as many people as possible to know about the climate and the science behind the climate crisis. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) regularly publishes so-called ‘assessment reports’ that summarise the current state of knowledge on the climate crisis. These thousands of pages are heavy reading, which we want to spare you with this podcast in German. The same applies to the many other new findings in climate research. In each episode, current research on the climate crisis is presented in such a way that it can be understood even without a degree in climate science. Since 2021 and ongoing.
