Our interdisciplinary team focuses on the development, testing, and validation of safety related systems in the domains of driver assistance and autonomous driving.

Key Research Areas:

  • Vehicle Safety: Development and evaluation of systems to improve safety for vehicle occupants and vulnerable road users.
  • XiL-Simulation: Integration of Driver-in-the-Loop (DiL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL), and Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) simulations to connect virtual testing with physical systems.
  • Autonomous Driving Technology: Design, implementation, and testing of innovative systems enabling various levels of autonomous driving.
  • Testing and Validation of AD Algorithms: Rigorous validation and verification of autonomous driving (AD) algorithms using real-time simulation environments and sensor data to ensure safety, robustness, and reliability.
  • Sensors and Sensor Fusion: Development and analysis of multi-sensor systems and fusion strategies for enhanced environmental perception.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI): Application of AI and machine learning to optimize control strategies, decision-making, and real-time system responses.

Facilities and Equipment:

  • High-fidelity simulation platforms for comprehensive algorithm development as well as XiL testing and validation.
  • Sensor and data fusion testbeds for real-world data analysis.
  • Biotelemetry systems for analyzing human interaction with AD systems.
  • Dedicated infrastructure for collaborative research and prototype testing.

Collaborations and Projects:

ASIL-Lab Cologne actively engages in interdisciplinary research projects with industrial partners, governmental institutions, and academic networks. Our work contributes to the safe deployment of autonomous systems in public traffic environments.
