Withdrawal from Enrollment

If you have enrolled for the first time or completed a new enrollment at TH Köln but cannot or do not want to begin your studies, you can withdraw from your enrollment within certain deadlines before classes have started. Read the information below to find out how to proceed.

+ When is the deadline for withdrawing from my enrollment at TH Köln?

You can only withdraw from your enrollment if this is the first semester for which you have enrolled at TH Köln. If you were already enrolled in the previous semester, you can request to be disenrolled instead.

If you have enrolled for the winter semester, you can withdraw from your enrollment by October 15; if you have enrolled for the summer semester, the deadline for withdrawal is April 15. You do not need to give a reason for your withdrawal. You can make the request via TH Köln's campus management system (CaMS).

After October 15 or April 15, you can only withdraw from your enrollment if you have been admitted to a program at a different German university after the respective deadline and if you wish to enroll there instead. You will need to upload the letter of admission from the other university as proof.

+ How do I request a withdrawal from my enrollment?

You can make the request for withdrawal from enrollment online via TH Köln's campus management system (CaMS).

+ Do I need to give a reason for withdrawing from my enrollment or submit supporting documents?

You can withdraw from enrollment until October 15 (for the winter semester) or April 15 (for the summer semester) without giving reasons. No supporting documents are required.

Once these deadlines have passed, you can only withdraw from your enrollment if you have been admitted to a different German university after those dates. In this case, you will need to upload the letter of admission from the other university along with your request for withdrawal from enrollment.

+ I have missed the deadline to request a withdrawal from my enrollment. What can I do now?

If the deadline for withdrawing from your enrollment has already passed, you can request to be disenrolled via TH Köln's campus management system (CaMS).

+ I have already paid the semester fees. Will I get a refund?

The semester fee will be refunded depending on the date of your withdrawal:

Withdrawal before or on October 15 / April 15
If you withdraw from your enrollment before or on October 15 / April 15, you can request a full refund of the semester fees. Please fill in the refund request. You can either upload the completed form along with your request for withdrawal from enrollment in CaMS, or you can wait for your withdrawal request to be approved and then send the refund request to your Office of Student Services via email.

Withdrawal after October 15 / April 15
If you withdraw from your enrollment because you were admitted to a different university after October 15 / April 15 and are now enrolled at the other university, you will also receive a full refund of the semester fees upon request. Please send the following documents to your Office of Student Services via email within three weeks after your withdrawal:
- Refund request
- Certificate of enrollment from the other university

In all other cases, you can contact the General Students’ Committee (AStA) to request a refund of the semester ticket. Further information is available on the AStA's website [in German].

+ What should I do with my student ID card (MultiCa)?

If you have already received your student ID card (MultiCa), you can destroy it yourself. Please note that you are not permitted to continue using your MultiCa after your withdrawal because you will no longer have student status.

If you do not want to destroy the MultiCa yourself, please mail it to your Office of Student Services stating that you have withdrawn from your enrollment. You can also return your MultiCa to one of the Offices of Student Services during opening hours or drop it into one of TH Köln's mailboxes.

+ What is the difference between a request for withdrawal from enrollment and a disenrollment request?

Timing
You can only withdraw from your enrollment in the semester in which you have enrolled at TH Köln for the first time or completed a new enrollment. If you were already enrolled in the previous semester, you cannot withdraw from your enrollment. However, you can make a disenrollment request at any time.

Student status
If you withdraw from your enrollment, your data will be deleted from TH Köln's servers and no semesters will be counted – as if you had never been enrolled in the first place.
If you disenroll after enrollment, the semester that you were enrolled for at TH Köln will be counted as one semester, even if you were only enrolled for a small part of the semester. You are considered a student for the period between your enrollment and your disenrollment. Your data will remain stored in TH Köln's student administration systems in accordance with the legal requirements.

Your student status can affect other areas such as child benefits, BAföG or your health insurance. Before withdrawing from your enrollment, we recommend that you contact the relevant agency. Please note that the Offices of Student Services at TH Köln cannot provide advice on this matter.
