TH Köln at Cairo Water Week 2025
The Faculty of Spatial Development and Infrastructure Systems at TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences is currently participating in the 8th Cairo Water Week, taking place from 12–16 October 2025 at the Triumph Luxury Hotel in Cairo, Egypt.
The faculty contributes through the organization of two dedicated sessions addressing key aspects of water management and climate resilience:
The first session, “iWater: The Role of Transdisciplinary IWRM in Enhancing Climate Resilience and Water Sustainability” (13 October, 11:30–13:00), highlights partnerships between German and Egyptian universities driving integrated water resources management to address water scarcity and climate resilience in Egypt. This session will feature expert keynotes and panel discussions emphasizing university-industry collaborations and the establishment of master’s programs at Ain Shams and Mansoura Universities.
The second session, “Empowering the Next Generation: Science-Based Collaboration and Capacity Building in the Nile Basin” (13 October, 14:00–15:30), will focus on promoting science-based cooperation and capacity building among young professionals in Nile riparian countries. This high-level panel will explore education and empowerment as cornerstones for fostering resilient, long-term water governance and collaboration in the Nile Basin.
In addition, Prof. Dr. Lars Ribbe will give a presentation titled “Water Knows No Borders: How Historical Partnerships Can Inspire Innovative Solutions” during the session “Innovating for Resilience: NWRC’s Legacy and Future in Water Resources Management” (14 October, 09:30–11:00).
Dr. Saher Ayyad, member of the faculty’s research staff, will present “Unlocking the Potential for Improved Irrigation Efficiency in Egypt” in the session “Modern Irrigation for a Changing World: Strategies for a Resilient Water–Food Nexus in MENA and Central Asia” (14 October, 09:30–11:00).
