Further information
Since this funding is tied to specific, project-related cooperations, the availability of places varies depending on the faculty and partner institution. Participants are selected in close consultation between TH Köln and the respective host institution.
As part of this international dimension, TH Köln provides scholarships for students and financial support for short stays by teachers at selected partner universities.
In addition to incoming and outgoing student mobility, funds are also provided to support incoming and outgoing mobility in the area of teaching, training, and continuing education measures for university staff.
Special funding conditions apply to projects with the partner countries Morocco, India, South Africa, Kyrgyzstan, and Egypt: Incoming mobility is possible without restriction, while outgoing mobility is limited to doctoral students and staff. If you are nevertheless interested in an outgoing mobility as a student to one of these countries, please feel free to contact us. As part of our project KA 131 - Erasmus+ Study, it is possible to apply for funding via the “Erasmus+ KA131 International” line.

Services and financial support
The financial support for Erasmus+ stays in partner countries has been determined by the European Commission at the European level. A distinction is made between long-term and short-term mobility.
Long-term mobility enables traditional stays abroad for study or internships lasting from 2 to 12 months. In contrast, short-term mobility is designed for a period of 5 to 30 days and thus offers maximum flexibility for short projects.
Within the framework of cooperation with partner countries, stays abroad are funded as follows:
Long-term mobility for students:
- Students going to Germany: Mobility grant of €900 per month
- Students from Germany: Mobility grant of €700 per month
- Students and graduates with fewer opportunities can receive an extra monthly grant of €250 for long-term mobility.
Short-term mobility for students:
- Students receive a mobility grant of €79 per day and €56 per day from the 15th to the 30th day of the mobility measure.
- Students and graduates with fewer opportunities can receive a one-time grant of €100 (5-14 days of mobility) or €150 (15-30 days of mobility) for short-term mobility.
The program also includes the waiver of tuition fees, targeted preparation for the stay abroad, and the recognition of courses.
Mobility for university staff:
- University staff receive a mobility grant of €190 per day and €133 per day from the 15th to the 30th day of the mobility measure.
- Mobility for university staff
Travel grants for all mobility:
In addition to these funding rates, travel costs are reimbursed depending on the distance between the country of departure and the country of destination.
Green Travel within the framework of Erasmus+ means using low-emission means of transport such as trains, buses, or carpooling for the majority of the journey. An increased flat rate is granted as financial recognition for this.

Preparation, application, and nomination
If you are interested in spending time abroad as part of the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility program, please first contact the departmental coordinators at your faculty and the Department of International Affairs to find out about your options.
The selection criteria are determined by TH Köln in cooperation with the respective partner institution.
Once you have successfully coordinated with your faculty and completed the selection process, you will be officially nominated at the host university. Once you have been accepted there and have formally accepted the place, the host university will inform you directly about all further internal university formalities.
Application deadlines for long-term mobility for students:
- winter semester: March 15
- summer semester: September 15
Application deadlines for short-term mobility for students:
- in consultation with your respective departmental coordinator
A complete registration in Mobility Online is considered an application. This includes entering all required personal data correctly and uploading the necessary documents as far as possible. Only when these steps have been completed is the application complete and valid for the further selection process. Applications uploaded too late cannot be processed.
All relevant documents must be available in full before you begin your mobility program. This includes the Learning Agreement, in which you define your planned study program in close consultation with the departmental coordinators at TH Köln and the partner institution. The formal framework for your funding is provided by the Grant Agreement; this scholarship agreement must be signed in the original before the start of your stay and is provided by the Department of International Affairs.
During the Mobility
Detailed information on enrollment at the host university will be provided directly by the partner institution after successful nomination. The first scholarship installment will be paid out as soon as the signed Letter of Confirmation has been received. Please also note that any amended Learning Agreement must be submitted promptly after the start of the mobility period. The further procedure and the entire process are based on the general Erasmus+ guidelines.
After the Mobility
The final scholarship installment will only be paid out once the signed Letter of Confirmation and the completed Learning Agreement have been submitted. In addition, you must complete the EU Survey, an online survey conducted by the EU about your stay abroad. You will receive a separate request to do so by email. Please note that incomplete or late submissions will result in delays in payment. For further information on the procedure and formal follow-up after your return, please refer to the general Erasmus+ guidelines.
