Disimprisonment of Dr. Ahmadreza Djalali

TH Köln explicitly supports the demands by the German Rectors’ Conference and Scholars at Risk to immediately release Dr. Ahmadreza Djalali

Swedish-Iranian scientist Dr. Ahmadreza Djalali has been imprisoned in Iran since April 2016. According to Amnesty International and Scholars at Risk it is becoming increasingly likely that his execution is imminent. “This perilous development is deeply upsetting and calls for the resolute objection and protest by the international scientific community” Professor Dr. Stefan Herzig, President of TH Köln, emphasizes. “Freedom of science and research, freedom of speech and expression, equality of all persons, respect for human dignity irrespective of origin, religion, social status, gender and sexual orientation constitute the moral fiber of Europe and our university. That is why I explicitly support the plea by the German Rectors’ Conference to immediately release Dr. Djalali, which has been addressed to the Iranian government by its Chairman Professor Dr. Peter André Alt in an open letter.
