Students in bachelor, master and diploma programs at German universities of applied sciences can apply for scholarships for semester stays and final theses, internships abroad and trips to trade fairs and congresses.

Scholarship: Semester stays and final theses
Who can apply?
To be eligible to apply, you must be enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program at the TH Köln. Bachelor students must be at least in their second semester or in the second half of their first year of study. It is also possible to apply if you are not a German citizen. The exact requirements can be found in the important scholarship information under section A, point 1.
What is supported?
Study stays and stays in the context of a final thesis abroad are funded.
Simultaneous funding via Erasmus or PROMOS and HAW.International is excluded.
How long can I receive funding?
The duration of the sponsorship varies according to the type of stay:
- Study stays min. 3 to max. 6 months
- stays in the context of final theses min. 1 to max. 6 months.
What do I get?
The scholarship includes the following benefits:
- a monthly scholarship rate determined according to the host country: scholarship calculator ("Stipendienrechner" in this program, the rates for undergraduate/graduate students apply). Scholarship rates are subject to funding awarded in the 2025/2026 academic year.
- Travel allowance, the amount of which varies by host country,
- Health, accident and personal liability insurance benefits,
- for study stays: Subsidy for tuition fees, if any, up to a maximum limit (depending on the destination country). For further information, please refer to the important scholarship information in section D / point 4.
- for theses: Grant for travel in the host country directly related to the project.
- a grant for a language course accompanying the scholarship (national language or language of instruction or work).
- If your spouse, partner or children accompany you, you can apply for additional family benefits.
When do I have to apply?
- Aug 31, 2026 for scholarship start dates between February 2027 and July 2027.
- Feb 28, 2027 for scholarship start dates between August 2027 and January 2028.

Scholarship: Internships abroad
Who can apply?
To be eligible to apply, you must be enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program at TH Köln. Bachelor students must be at least in their second semester or in the second half of their first year of study. It is also possible to apply if you are not a German citizen. The exact requirements can be found in the important scholarship information under section A, point 1.
What is supported?
Internships in the private and public sector are funded in two program tracks:
Internship Track A
Applications with full-time internships obtained on the applicant's own initiative.
The internship must be relevant to the student's own studies and fit into the individual's educational path.
Internship track B
You can apply for up to two of the advertised internship offers (prioritization necessary). The application must target the specific requirement and task profile of the advertised internship.

Please note that simultaneous funding via Erasmus (exception possible for internships in the UK) or PROMOS and HAW.International is not possible.
How long can I be sponsored?
At least 2 months up to a maximum of 6 months
What do I get?
The scholarship includes the following benefits:
- A monthly scholarship rate determined according to the host country: scholarship calculator ("Stipendienrechner", undergraduate/graduate rates apply in this program). Scholarship rates are subject to funding awarded in the 2022/2023 academic year.
- Travel allowance, the amount of which varies by host country,
- Health, accident and personal liability insurance benefits,
- a grant for a language course to accompany the scholarship (national language or language of instruction or work).
- If your spouse, partner or children accompany you, you can apply for additional family benefits.
- If you have a disability or chronic illness: subsidy for additional costs incurred abroad that are not covered by third parties.
When do I have to apply?
Internship Track A:
- Aug 31, 2026 for scholarship start dates between February 2027 and July 2027.
- Feb 28, 2027 for scholarship start dates between August 2027 and January 2028.

Scholarship: Fair and Conference Travels
Who can apply?
Master's students, doctoral students (in independent or cooperative doctoral studies) and members of the teaching and research staff (doctoral and non-doctoral) can apply. It is also possible to apply if you are not a German citizen.
What is funded?
The DAAD uses BMBF funds to support active participation in international scientific congresses and conferences as well as international fairs (presence and online).
Active participation (in the case of congresses and conferences) is considered to be the presentation of one's own lecture or poster, or the main responsible conception and chairing of a panel.
Scholarship benefits
The following grant benefits are offered:
A. For attendance
- DAAD travel allowance
Grantees traveling from abroad to their destination will receive a travel allowance of up to 80% of the documented airfare (economy class). - Fixed accommodation allowance (per proven congress or trade fair day)
- Fixed rate for material costs in the amount of 300 Euro
The application must be submitted at least 120 days before the start of the event.
B. For online participation
Against proof: Reimbursement of 1. participation fees (for congresses) or trade visitor ticket (for trade fairs), 2. membership fee (for max. 1 year) and 3. abstract fee (for max. 1 abstract).
Late registration fees will not be reimbursed.
In this case, the application must be submitted at least 30 days before the start of the event.
