Solutions for people with reduced mobility

The aim of this project is to develop a device that makes it possible to secure electric vehicles in railways in an easy-to-use manner. The result is an installation guideline for e-scooter manufacturers and an attractive system for transport companies and passengers, which enables them to take their vehicles on the train without danger thanks to an easy-to-use, flexible and reliable connection.

Due to demographic change, electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular. The micro vehicles, also known as e-scooters, give people with physical disabilities the opportunity to remain mobile and thus make a decisive contribution to maintaining the quality of life.

However, these vehicles are not suitable for covering long distances quickly, which makes the use of combined mobility necessary. Unfortunately, traveling by bus and train with electric vehicles represents a certain potential danger, as tilting and sliding due to longitudinal and lateral acceleration cannot be excluded when the vehicle is carried unsecured. Due to the resulting danger, electric vehicles are excluded from local public transport in many places. Although a uniform nationwide decree on the transport of e-scooters in public buses has now come into force, the problem of carrying them on trains still exists.

The exclusion of people who are dependent on such a small vehicle represents discrimination against an ever-growing population group. Moreover, it cannot be reconciled with the objective of "absolute accessibility in local transport by 2022" as formulated in §8 paragraph 3 of the Passenger Transport Act.

The aim of this project is to develop a device that makes it possible to secure electric vehicles in railways in an easy-to-use manner.  The result is an installation guideline for e-scooter manufacturers and an attractive system for transport companies and passengers, which enables them to take their vehicles on the train without any danger thanks to an easy-to-use, flexible and reliable connection.

The project is part of the project series "All inclusive mobility", which is realized with the help of donations of the foundation HANS-HERMANN VOSS-STIFTUNG.
