Admission Requirements

University degree

Successful applicants to the Master’s program hold a university degree (Bachelor's degree or higher) in a suitable field, earned at a state or a state-recognized institution of higher education with a final grade of “satisfactory (3.0)” (German grading system) or better. They also need to demonstrate their aptitude for the Master's program.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have graduated at the time of application.

Please note: Applications by applicants who meet these criteria only after the application deadline will not be considered.

Applicants with degrees obtained outside of Germany please follow the information on admission requirements and German language skills.

English language proficiency

Proof of excellent English language proficiency. The following certificates are accepted: 

- TOEFL ibt or TOEFL ibt at home: 79 points
- IELTS Academic or IELTS Indicator: Band score 6.0
- Cambridge ESOL: FCE

Native speakers as well as applicants with a Higher Education Entrance Qualification and a university degree (both acquired completely in English) will also be considered.
TOEFL itp (institutional testing program) certificates will not be accepted.

Test scores (or other proof of English language proficiency) must be no older than five years and are to be presented at the time of application.

Applicants participate in a selection process. The decision will be made by the faculty based on the submitted application.

a) Application process for
- German applicants
- applicants with a first-cycle degree in a field related to the Master’s program from a German university

Applications are submitted through TH Köln's campus management system (CaMS).

CaMS

Applications for the winter semester can be submitted through CaMS from early May (subject to change).

Information on the documents which are to be submitted with your application is available in CaMS.

Application period: Early May - June 12, 2024

b) Application process for
- international applicants without a first-cycle degree from a German university but with a first-cycle degree in a field related to the Master’s program from a university outside of Germany.

You are required to apply to uni-assist.

Applications for the winter semester can be submitted through uni-assist from early February to late March of each year (subject to change).

Information on visa applications

Please be aware that in some countries the waiting time for visa appointments might be 12 months or more. We recommend checking the website of the German Embassy in your home country for information on waiting times and the visa application process.

Letters of Admission are usually sent out around July (for the winter semester). You do not need your Letter of Admission to schedule an appointment. It only needs to be presented during the actual appointment.
