Semester fees

The semester fees include your public transport pass for the whole semester as well as different administrative fees. The exact fees and contributions that make up your semester fee are listed below.

Don't forget to include supporting documents when submitting a refund form. If you request a refund due to your removal from the register of students, this is to be done within 2 weeks of the removal.
Students in financial distress
Students who cannot afford the public transport pass may be granted a refund (regulation for cases of exceptional hardship). Please contact the student parliament for more information:
Semester fees
Semester fee for the summer semester 2021: €281.50
The semester fee includes:
- Administrative fee for Kölner Studierendenwerk: €75.00
- Public transport pass for North Rhine-Westphalia: €192.20
(including SemesterTicket NRW: €57.40, VRS semester ticket: €134.80 and solidarity contribution: €0.20) - AStA fee: €13.10
- Nextbike rental bikes: €1.00
Semester fee for the winter semester 2020/2021: €280.50
The semester fee includes:
- Administrative fee for Kölner Studierendenwerk: €75.00
- Public transport pass for North Rhine-Westphalia: €191.20 (including SemesterTicket NRW: €56.40, VRS semester ticket: €134.80 and solidarity contribution: €0.20)
- AStA fee: €13.10
- Nextbike rental bikes: €1.00

Students enrolled in one of the joint degree programs at Gummersbach Campus are required to pay an additional material procurement fee of
- €110.88 for Bachelor’s programs
- €109.20 for Master’s programs

Information for students enrolled in programs parallel to professional employment

Semester Ticket Form for eligible students enrolled in Programs Parallel to Professional Employment
From the summer semester 2017 on, students enrolled in programs parallel to professional employment (i.e. programs whose schedule allows a full-time employment) are no longer eligible for a public transport pass as well as the Nextbike rental bikes. Exceptions are only possible for students who work less than 20 hours/week. If this applies to you, please complete the "Semester Ticket Form" available for download and return it to the Office of Student Services.
These changes are due to the fares conditions of Verkehrsbund Rhein-Sieg (VRS) to which TH Köln's fees system has been adjusted.
This affects all students enrolled in the following Advanced Master's programs:
- Library and Information Science,
- Taxation,
- Insurance Law,
- Web Science,
as well as all students enrolled in the following programs parallel to professional employment: - International Business (Bachelor's program) in co-operation with FOM,
- Joint degree program in Business Information Systems (Bachelor's and Master's programs).
For all students enrolled in one of the programs mentioned above, the semester fee only includes:
- Administrative fee for Kölner Studierendenwerk and
- AStA fee
Tuition fees for Advanced Master's programs
In addition to the (reduced) semester fee, students enrolled in Advanced Master's programs are required to pay the following fees:
