16th Afternoon for Doctorates
On May 23, 2023, the 16th Afternoon for Doctorates took place for the first time in combination with the TH Köln Research Day at the Fritz Thyssen Foundation. The theme of the event was "Doctorates International". As in past years, many interesting contributions were made, providing those present with valuable insights into experiences abroad in the context of doctoral studies.
The event began with a warm welcome and introduction by Prof. Dr. Klaus Becker, Vice President for Research and Knowledge Transfer. Helen Overhoff from Graduate Center Service Desk then gave a brief overview of the current offers of the Graduate Center.
This year we had the pleasure to welcome Martina Brüderle from the Department of International Affairs as a guest. Together with Mirjam Heetkamp from Graduate Center Service Desk, she presented the European Charter for Researchers and the EURAXESS services for doctoral researchers. These two initiatives provide extensive support and information for doctoral researchers at the European level and beyond, aiming to facilitate optimal and conducive conditions for doctoral studies and the postdoc phase.
Later in the afternoon, an exciting " Journey around the World" took place, during which some doctoral researchers reported on their scientific experiences abroad and answered questions from the audience. We hope that these personal insights into the various research journeys made all participants "hungry for internationalism".
Afterwards, participants had the opportunity to network over coffee and cake and participate in the Research Day.
The 17th Afternooen for Doctorates is planned for November 16, 2023 at the Leverkusen Campus.
