Institute of Information Science

Welcome to the Institute of Information Science! The institute offers three bachelor's and three master's degree programs that deal with the generation, collection, presentation, management, and archiving of information – in short, the various phases of the information life cycle.

  • Data and Information Science (Bachelor's program)

    Data and information play a pivotal role in today’s digital society and in times of "big data". Enterprises, politicians and the sciences all require reliable information in order to make sound decisions. Being able to analyze huge amounts of data and to provide the right information at the right time, in the right quality and at the right place is a crucial task. More

  • Digital Journalism and Media (Bachelor's program)

    The Bachelor’s program in Digital Journalism and Media prepares future web professionals for versatile careers in the ever-expanding field of digital communication. In this seven-semester program, students gain knowledge and competence in journalism and interactive media, marketing and social media as well as web design. The program also puts a strong emphasis on theoretical foundations. More

  • Library and Information Science (Master's program)

    This four-semester Master's program qualifies graduates of any academic discipline as well as librarians holding at least a Bachelor's degree for highly-specialized responsibilities and leadership positions in libraries and other information centers. The course language is German, the courses are offered in form of obligatory on-campus block courses and self-study phases. More

  • Library Studies and Digital Communication (Bachelor's program)

    Social change and rapid developments in information technology have lead to an increasing demand on librarian’s activities and consequently a growing need for highly qualified personnel in libraries. More

  • Market and Media Research (Master’s program)

    This Master degree programme is designed to produce generalists for market and media research in terms of both methodology and content. The programme is research-oriented, combines the expertise of both disciplines and familiarises students with the latest scientific research results and methods. More
