Institute of Translation and Multilingual Communication – Cologne CAI Campus

Interpreting booths equipped with computer-aided interpreting tools for hands-on practicing and testing under real-life conditions
Cologne CAI Campus: What looks like a regular interpreting lab with eight booths has recently become a state-of-the art testing and training environment for Computer-Aided Interpreting (CAI) applications.
Since autumn 2025, each of the 16 workplaces has been equipped with a high-performance computer and a Wacom touchscreen plus smart pen.
A wide variety of computer-aided interpreting tools will soon be installed here. Our students and external guests will then be able to perform hands-on training and testing with all kinds of live support in simultaneous interpreting.
- (Near) real-time display of terminology, numbers, named entities, or even complete live transcription using tools such as InterpretBank or Cymo Note
- Live transcription for example using Otter.ai, Notta.ai or Zoom
- Handwritten notes on the touchscreen combined with live transcription with Cymo Note
- Remote collaboration using Etherpad, Cymo Booth, etc.
We will soon be able open our CAI Campus to external guests. Stay tuned and find regular updates here. For further information and enquiries, feel free to contact us at anja.ruetten@th-koeln.de.
