19th Afternoon for Doctoral and Postdoctoral Researchers

The event was opened by President Prof. Dr. Sylvia Heuchemer. She emphasized the importance of supporting early-career researchers at TH Köln - University of Applied Sciences and reported on the first graduation ceremony of the PK NRW, at which four doctoral graduates from TH Köln - University of Applied Sciences were honored. This was followed by introductions of the newly formed team at the Graduate Center Service Office, Lisa-Marie Friede, Gudrun Löhrer, and Ella Lutz, as well as the contact person for postdocs, Markus Prieske.

Science thrives on exchange and networking. The idea behind the afternoon for doctoral students and postdocs is to engage in conversation, exchange experiences, and learn from each other. The break was used extensively for this purpose, with coffee and cake provided.

The focus was on the topic of “Publications and Conference Contributions,” on which Prof. Dr. Mirjam Blümm gave a vivid and insightful keynote speech. Afterwards, the doctoral students and postdocs engaged in a lively discussion about their experiences in this area, receiving many suggestions from Prof. Blümm and giving each other tips. Topics discussed included successful poster presentations, questions about the appropriate publication medium, and licensing provisions in author contracts. Uncertainties in the submission process for conferences and meetings were also discussed at length.

The afternoon for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers takes place at least once a year. All current doctoral researchers and postdocs at TH Köln - University of Applied Sciences are cordially invited to network and exchange experiences.
