From 2023 to 2026, an interdisciplinary research team, funded by the DFG and the Ernst von Siemens Art Foundation, has been dedicated to the study and scholarly documentation of drawings and prints from the Cranach workshop, which are now freely accessible in the Cranach Digital Archive (CDA). The symposium aims to situate and reflect on the works of Lucas Cranach the Elder, his sons and the workshop from an expanded perspective that encompasses both art-technological and art-historical approaches. In this context, the drawings will not only be analysed as an integral part of the workshop practices but will also be examined within their broader historical and cultural contexts. For the prints, a catalogue has been compiled for the first time that systematically documents and makes accessible the various editions and states. These approaches open new possibilities for a differentiated investigation of the production conditions, functional contexts, and modes of reception of graphic works in the Early Modern period.
