Research

The Cologne Cobots Lab, the Cologne TrainING Center, the Cologne Innovation and Transfer Lab, and the Digital Engineering Solutions Center - Cologne (DESC-Cologne) implement inter- and transdisciplinary projects that closely link research and teaching with the following research foci in our different research groups:

Research Foci

Collaboration in direct human-machine interaction

The Cologne Cobots Lab is especially concerned with the various dimensions of collaboration between humans and robots.

It explores sociotechnical systems at different levels:

  • Gestalt perception and impact on cooperation and collaboration.
  • motivation, volition, stress
  • communication and dialog behavior
  • Complexity management/ task design
  • Personality and roles
  • Team composition, team development, teamwork
  • Error culture

AR/VR/MXR in Engineering Education

Augmented (AR), virtual (VR) and mixed reality (MR) applications in engineering are being researched at the Cologne TrainING Center.

The focus of our research and development is to design augmented, virtual, and mixed reality applications in a competence-oriented, application-oriented, and diversity-friendly manner by designing training settings that promote reflection. Following the concept of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), we accompany our training applications with research by investigating the impact of structural changes on training success.

Transfer and accompanying research

The Cologne Innovation and Transfer Lab thus fulfills its social responsibility to make knowledge socially effective.

The Cologne Innovation and Transfer Lab conducts transfer and accompanying research oriented to practical requirements and research projects and continuously explores new transfer models and formats with participatory approaches. It thus contributes to researching, establishing and further developing innovations in the form of creative collaboration in research and teaching and to communicating the research results to the public.
