W2 Professorship in Integrated Design: Social Constructions
with regard to Diversity and Gender
The position to be filled at the earliest possible date.
At an institute operating on an international and interdisciplinary basis, the incumbent will represent and give shape to the newly formulated discipline and research area “Social Constructions“ in theory and practice.
You will grasp the area of “Social Constructions“ by a strong practical and methodological focus on (de-)construction reflecting on socio-cultural realities and phenomena with regard to diversity and gender – and implementing them according to design theory and practice. In doing so, you will put a primary emphasis on the realm of social and cultural human diversity closely connected and attached to terms of gender, class, age, ethnicity, nationality, physicality, and religion.
In the field of teaching, you will teach analytical, conceptional, and creative skills which enable students to challenge, develop, and implement social realities.
In the area of research, you will cope with performative (media) art and technology, fashion and textile, alternating product worlds, virtual and social spaces and networks.
We are looking for an outstanding, highly qualified candidate in the realm of design and related disciplines. We expect you to hold a university degree in a discipline such as design, architecture, the arts, or in the field of cultural or social sciences (provided that you have been following a research approach strongly focused on design or design-related subjects) with excellent university performances, a PhD (or if a candidate not hold a doctoral degree, he or she is to attest to merits adequate of a doctorate by submitting an official assessment by a university professor with the application or - in art subjects - particular proficiency for artistic work attested by a professor’s official assessment may substitute the lack of a doctoral degree as well as non-existing merits adequate of a doctorate) and a total of at least five years of subject-related career experience (including at least three years outside the higher education sector). Also highly desirable is a broad international network of players in design and the creative industries, as well as proven activities for respective institutions, organizations, associations, and interest groups. We expect a good command of English (German respectively).
