W2 Professorship in Game Informatics

Your responsibilities

You represent the specialized field ‘Game Informatics’ in the Bachelor and Master's degree program at CGL. Your focus is technical conceptual design and the implementation of interactive nonlinear media products for various platforms, both stationary and mobile. Combining theoretical content with artistic technical practice, you will teach the fundamentals of the architecture and function of the computer, fundamentals of operating systems, programming languages as well as graphic and back-end technologies. You will be teaching artistically trained programmers and gameplay programmers respectively, operating at the interface of game design, game arts and technology. You will closely supervise students and cooperate in interdisciplinary teaching and research with other major fields of study. Lectures will be held in English.

Your research activities will strengthen the faculty's research profile and you will actively pursue third-party funding. The development of and participation in interdisciplinary research projects of nonlinear and audio-visual media with partners inside and outside the university is particularly desired.

In addition to teaching and research, your responsibilities will include committed participation in curricular planning and the further development of existing as well as new courses. You will actively work in the self-administration of the faculty and in the management of the institute.

Your Profile

You have a university degree, a PhD and several years of relevant professional experience outside the university in the field of informatics and the realization of digital games. We are looking for an outstanding technical candidate who has a suitable portfolio in the field of digital games. In this respect, notwithstanding the requirement of a PhD, an appropriate qualification of academic studies may also be substituted by either achievements suitable for PhD consideration according to article 36 section 1 HG or by a suitable subject-based practical qualification under article 36 section 3 HG which must, in each case, be supported by an academic testimonial.

Ideally, you will already have experience in teaching and in the supervision of art-related academic processes and are willing to embrace interdisciplinary cooperation in teaching and research. You are fluent in English and have an international network within the games industry and/or in the field of teaching and research of digital games.

You have the ability to align your thinking and practice to the long-term goals of the university as well as the ability to develop solutions collaboratively and reliably.
