Courses and workshops at the Language Learning Center not only aim at the acquisition and expansion of your knowledge of and about a foreign language, but first and foremost at enabling you to use this language in different situations with varying communicative purposes and goals. In academic and professional contexts, you will have to present the results of your work to international audiences.
This workshop has been designed to support you in developing the required skills. It provides examples for analysis and discussion and will give you opportunities to practice useful language for presentations and other aspects of delivery, such as non-verbal communication, the use of media and how to deal with questions from the audience. In addition, issues of communication style and culture are addressed. The workshop will thus help participants gain greater confidence in presenting in English and develop a personal presentation style that is both interesting and memorable.
After attending the workshop
- you will have a greater range of useful terms and phrases for presenting your topics,
- you will know what to consider when preparing your presentation,
- you will know how to structure and organize your presentation,
- you will have developed an awareness of important intercultural differences,
- you will be better equipped to deal with difficult questions.
Methods of instruction:
Brainstorming, discussions, input from teacher and participants, presentation practice with feedback from teacher and peers.
Please note: Students who have neither taken a placement test with the SLZ recently nor can provide proof that they have acquired level B2 in English have to take the mandatory placement test on Monday, May 11, 2015, 3.30pm, room ZN3-4a (IWZ, Deutz Campus).
As we are doing a trial run of the new onSET-English online test, placement will consist of two parts, one online and one paper-based. This will take about 3 hours, but you will receive an official certificate from the TestDaF-Institute . The test results will be valid for two semesters, so that you can also use this placement for registration for our courses in the winter semester 2015/16.
