(409W20) Intercultural Conflict Resolution

Seminar for TH Köln students, 04. November 2019

Conflict in the workplace can arise for many reasons: various cultural, religious or political backgrounds or simply personality clashes. Then you need to be able to solve the disagreements and tension with little or no disruption to your daily work. But how? This will be the focus of the course.

Learning Outcome:

  • Understanding and managing conflict in intercultural collaboration
  • Becoming aware of one’s own conflict behaviour patterns
  • Detecting signs of conflict escalation
  • Responding with appropriate skills and actions
  • Using effective conflict resolution techniques

When ever people from different cultural background interact in the workplace or in their personal lives, they bring with them different underlying assumptions, expectations, and communication styles, possibly leading to misunderstandings and conflict. If dealt with constructively this may not be a bad thing because it makes the different interests and needs people have transparent.

This course will look at how conflict can be recognized and faced positively with the right tool kit and skills, mindset and intercultural competence to develop and maintain respectful and intact working relationships.

Evaluation note: In this seminar an evaluation takes place. You will receive an e-mail from us on the last day of the seminar.
