Leisure: Things to do in Cologne

As a multicultural metropolis, Cologne has a lot to offer when it comes to spending your leisure time: Cultural and sporting events, myriad restaurants, a multi-faceted nightlife and lots more.

Students who would like to take a break from their books and be active will find plenty of activities in the sports program offered by Cologne’s universities. Both Hochschulsport Köln and Campussport Köln offer a great variety of mostly free-of-charge sporting activities for all students. To participate, you will simply need to present your valid student-ID card for most courses; for some courses, you will need to sign up prior to the beginning of the course or pay a participation fee. Detailed information is available on the websites of Hochschulsport Köln and Campussport Köln.

In light of the manifold cultural and recreational activities in Cologne, you are presented with endless options of spending your leisure time. Renowned museums and theaters, musicals and concerts by famous artists, international art exhibitions and sporting events: Cologne caters to everybody’s needs. We have listed selected websites – some of which available in German only – for you, giving you a first insight into what to do while you are in Cologne:

The International Office also offers cultural events for international and Germans students each semester. Among these events are a four-day semester trip, a city tour, an international cooking competition or trips to the museum, zoo or theater. With exception of the semester trip, these events are normally free of charge. Feel free to grab a print version of the current semester calendar in the International Office on your campus or download it on our website.
