Academic Document Review at TH Köln

Information for all applicants who obtained their Higher Education Entrance Qualification (HEEQ) abroad: your application can only be considered if your secondary education is equivalent to the German 'Abitur' or 'Fachhochschulreife'.

German applicants as well applicants from EU/EEA member states who obtained their HEEQ abroad and want to apply to a Bachelor's program with restricted admission are required to submit their academic documents to TH Köln for review. TH Köln will then determine if your secondary education is equivalent to the German 'Abitur' or 'Fachhochschulreife'.

Please note that you need to submit your documents for review as well as apply through our online application platform by the application deadline for Bachelor's programs with restricted admission:

  • January 15 for applications for the summer semester
  • July 15 for applications for the winter semester

Relevant is the date of receipt at TH Köln, not the date of the postmark. Only complete applications will be considered.

Additional Information

You will receive the results of the document review by mail. We will automatically adjust the grade and date of your Higher Education Entrance Qualification in your online application. Should the result be that you do not meet the admission requirements of the program you want to apply to, your application can unfortunately not be considered.

Requests for an academic document review can be submitted starting in August (for the summer semester)/in February (for the winter semester). We recommend you submit your documents as early as possible. That way you will have ample time to submit missing documents in case your request is incomplete. If you have not submitted all required documents by the end of the application deadline, your application cannot be considered.

Please refrain from inquiring about the status of your request since this will only slow down the review process. Particularly towards the end of the application period processing times may be longer than usual. Thank you for your patience.
